How To Make: Tiny Houses (Part 1)
March 2, 2011 § 4 Comments
These are so simple to make, you can do it too! Tiny clay houses so cute and charming. Place them on a windowsill, on your workdesk, anywhere that needs a little whimsy. The first few clay houses I made began on a lazy afternoon, and a chunk of clay that was too hard to throw. I was just mucking around with it, repeatedly dropping it on a surface to make a cuboid shape, and one thing led to another…
(pictures are grainy because I was working at night… it’s really bothering me now, but … ek.)
1. Get a chunk of clay (preferably quite stiff)
2. Make it into a cube by picking up and dropping…
3. Slice!
4. and slice the other way…
5. So now you have some tall cubes… it’s time to shape the roofs…
another roof style:
6. So now you’ll have a little city after going through all the blocks…
7. Let them set a bit… For this batch, the clay was really wet, so I’m going to leave them overnight to stiffen a bit. Don’t want the shape getting mucked up while I carve them… If your clay is dry enough to hold the shapes, then you can start carving.
Tomorrow: Carving in the details!
wow! Love this! erm… but where to get clay? makes me feel like trying to play with it too but then I dunno where to fire them and glaze them afterwards wor….. š
hey evelin, you can get clay and fire at Touch of Clay in Segambut – my teacher’s place. If you’re keen, I’ll forward you his number privately. Some day in the future, I hope to have a studio where friends and clay enthusiasts can come work… soon I hope…
cool… yup… you can email me his number š would be fun to get my hands dirty and make some things.. haha… if it is successful, I can display in my house… if not, dunno what I want to do with it! HAHAHAHAHAA….
yeay! I hope you can have your studio soon. I wanna come and play š
for the longest time I thought they were hollow, but this method is genius! Genius I tell you!
I adore them to bits!
